Wear a costume tomorrow!

Each group watched videos and looked at photos to help them make their costume for the party tomorrow.  I will put everything we looked at in class at the bottom of this post.

We all talked about what food or drinks to bring.   Remember, if you are bringing drinks, you should also bring small cups.  If you are bringing food that needs a plate or fork, bring those.

These are the categories:

  • food
  • drinks
  • fruits and vegetables
  • chips
  • sweet foods (cookies, cakes)
  • salty/non-sweet foods (pizza, mu’ajineh, breads)

Here are the costume ideas:

Pirates should remember from last time how to dress like pirates.

See you all tomorrow!

Yesterday and today’s news

Yesterday we learned about robots before  playing our review game.  We learned about three different kinds of robots:

  • autonomous
  • semi-autonomous
  • reomotely controlled

Today we learned about dinosaurs.  Here are some of the words that we learned:

  • extinct
  • plants
  • habitat
  • asteroid

See if you can remember…

  1. What animals are extinct?
The dinosaurs are extinct.  We also read about an ibex that is extinct.
  2. What did dinosaurs eat?
Some dinosaurs ate plants and some ate animals.
  3. What is a fish’s habitat?  What is Samir’s habitat?
The fish’s habitat is the water.  Samir’s habitat is his house.
  4. Why do scientists think the dinosaurs went extinct?
They think an asteroid hit Earth, and it made the Earth too cold for the dinosaurs to live.

Remember: Thursday is our party!

  • Everyone can dress up like their group name (like a zombie, dinosaur, robot, or pirate).  You can wear these clothes at school all day.
  • We will talk about how to dress like these things tomorrow.
  • We will talk about bringing food and drinks tomorrow.

Come see the school play!

If you want to see the school play, you can go to Miss Salma and write your name on the list for Tuesday  night or Wednesday night.  It is the story of Alice in Wonderland, like the movie you watched with Mr. Sean!

Spelling Bee and Water Fight!

This Thursday may have been the best day ever.

In class today, we had the spelling bee.  I was so proud of how well the students did.

We started with everyone, and when a student wrote a word incorrectly, they were out.  The last four were Shindi, Hana, Yara, and Shafiq.

We kept going until there was only one person left.

In the end, Yara was the winner!

1st place:  Yara

2nd place:  Shafiq

3rd place:  Hana

My computer won’t let me load the other pictures from the spelling bee, but I hope to get them up soon.

At the end of the day, we had the water fight.  Everyone had lots of fun.  I hope to get pictures up next week.

Only one week to go!

See you then!

Today was a very funky day!

We talked about nouns and adjectives today.

Nouns are things that you can hit. They are also people, places, things or ideas.

Adjectives tell us about a noun.

We learned two ways to turn nouns into adjectives. You cannot do this for every word, but many words.

  1. Put -y at the end of a noun.
  • cloud –> cloudy
I see a cloud in the sky.
    It is a cloudy day.
  • blood –> bloody
There is blood on my face!
    My face is bloody!
  • funk –> funky
    Give me the funk.
    That is a funky song!
  1. Put -less at the end of a noun.  This means that there is none of the noun.
  • cloud –> cloudless
    There are no clouds.
    It is a cloudless day.
  • heart –> heartless
Miss Kelly has a very big heart.
    Mr. Sean is heartless.
  • brain –> brainless
Sara has a brain, but Samir thinks she is brainless.

Do your homework on this!

Our awesome, funky song: “Song for Sunshine”

Don’t forget to practice the spelling words for the Spelling Bee on Thursday, and bring water for the water fight!

Eye of the Tariq video!

Here is a video of Eye of the Tariq.  Since I’ve been trapped inside Mr. Sean’s computer, I’ wanted to put a video of the kids on here so that I wouldn’t be lonely.

I hope we can make a video again with Hamdi there.  He did such a good job as the lead singer!

Please ask Mr. Sean to let me out of his computer.  It is very small.

Thank you!

Tonight’s homework

Finish your paragraph about being lost.  You can write about yourself or about Jim from our story.

Tomorrow is our spelling test on the first 40 words on the list you got Sunday.

We will also sing “Mama, Hold my Hand” for Miss Sheryl!  Here’s the song, if you want to practice at home:

Today…

Today we started reading a second story about a museum.  It is very good!  We learned these words today:

  • lose/lost
  • slide/slid
  • fool
  • fierce
  • skeleton
  • bones

We also practiced our spelling words.  Here is the link where you can listen to the words for this week:  http://www.mrsperkins.com/dolch-audio.html

Keep practicing!

See you tomorrow.
